Sujal Patel

Founder, Isilon

Sujal is the legendary founder of Isilon Systems. Sujal founded Isilon in 2001 with the vision that the rapid proliferation of unstructured, file-based data would necessitate a new, more efficient data storage system. Today, Sujal’s vision has not only become a reality validated by leading research firms like IDC and Gartner, but has also created the fastest-growing category within the enterprise storage market. As CEO, Patel guided Isilon’s (Nasdaq: ISLN) acquisition by EMC in December, 2010 for $2.5 billion. Patel served as the President of EMC’s Isilon Storage Division from the acquisition until November, 2012, driving significant revenue growth, market expansion, and organizational scale.
Prior to EMC and Isilon, Patel served in various engineering roles at RealNetworks, Inc., in part as chief architect behind the company's second-generation core media delivery system. Sujal holds a number of patents and pending patents, including those for the Isilon OneFS distributed file system. Patel graduated from the University of Maryland College Park with a degree in computer science.
When he is not building start-ups into billion dollar enterprises or serving on the boards of companies, he spends his time mentoring other entrepreneurs, speaking about startup experiences, and devoting time to his growing family.
